ᎦᏚᎩ Gadugi Council

ᎦᏚᎩ Gadugi is a Cherokee word for a community working together to lift each other up. 

Z Puppets Rosenschnoz is seeking an additional member for a team of 6 Indigenous Artists living in the Twin Cities.

Funded by the Minneapolis Cultural Districts Art Fund, the team will produce 2 programs to engage Native and Non-Native youth and families in Indigenous language, culture and history in 2025:

exhibitions of 7 local indigenous artists (January - July 2025)

festival celebrating local indigenous artists (May 17, 2025)

council member Stipend: $1,000 ($500 for work on each program)

Responsibilities:

  • Attend 3 team meetings

  • Participate monthly in e-mail or virtual communication about the Gallery and Festival 

  • Plan, set-up, host and clean up Before Chicago Avenue event on May 16th & 17th (up to 6 hrs)

  • Present participatory art-making activity or performance at May 17 Before Chicago Avenue event (12:00 noon – 4:00 pm)

  • Help select featured artists for the Gallery

  • Assist Gallery artist installations as needed.

  • Spread the word through your own personal and professional networks about the events and opportunities for other artists

This project is led by Chris Griffith (Cherokee Nation) and Shari Aronson, Creative Directors of Z Puppets Rosenschnoz. Z Puppets brings the power of playfulness to people of all ages and abilities through live and online performances, arts education and feats of imagination.  

The ᎦᏚᎩ Gadugi advisory council is made up of Indigenous multidisciplinary artists and organizers: Hapistinna Graci Horne (Dakota/Lakota), Juan Lucero (Pueblo), Julie Boada (Anishinabe) and Jennings Mergenthal.
