Cellula

  • Sabathani Community Center Auditorium 310 East 38th Street Minneapolis, MN, 55409 United States (map)

A glow-in-the-dark performance of cell science with a capella soundscape by improvisational vocalists Mankwe Ndosi and Libby Turner. Directed by Kurt Hunter, Cellula fuses a unique style of playful naturalism with scientific beauty — like a bedtime story as told by biologists. Through dazzling blacklight puppetry and mesmerizing sound, Cellula illuminates the true marvels of cell science inside us all.

Cellula gives the audience a view of cell division as if they are looking under the lens of a microscope, along with a mother who is introducing her young daughter to the wonder of science. The mother narrates as she weaves the action of the cells into the story of a young cell named Cellula.

Zooming in and out between magnification levels, the audience follows Cellula through the cell cycle, from the dance of DNA to the verge of specialization.

Doors open 30 minutes before each show for the Minnesota Microscopy Society’s Microscope Gallery, hands-on activity stations for youth and adults to explore the world through magnification.
