Native artists exploring puppetry in community
virtual workshops
Simon & Ribsy from Hershel & The Hanukkah Goblins (MN Jewish Theater Company production of stage adaptation by Z Puppets’ Shari Aronson) created by Chris Griffith.
Spaces are available for six native artists in Greater MN to participate in a series of six virtual puppetry workshops with Z Puppets co-founder Chris Griffith (Cherokee Nation).
The workshop series is open to all Native artists seeking to use contemporary puppetry to express their culture and identity. This program embraces that diverse and unique tribal cultural identities co-exist within a larger intertribal culture.
To apply for this series, artists will describe their experience, background and interest in creating and performing puppetry for youth.
Applicants will be chosen to balance the composition of the cohort with a diverse and compatible range of experience, and who meet the following criteria:
Native-identified artist
At least a beginning level of experience with puppetry and/or performing for youth
Articulated vision for how their work will benefit youth in their communities
Able to commit to actively participating in all six workshops,
Reside in Minnesota outside the Twin Cities Metro Area,
Applicants will each receive a $200 stipend on the completion of the series.
